    Pork Loin braised in Milk

    Pork Loin braised in Milk

This is an excellent dish to keep in one’s repertoire, especially with many hungry mouths to feed. Pork is widely available and affordable, and I’m sure I’m not alone when I say I have often found pork dry. Well this recipe will change your opinion about pork’s juiciness. I admit that this recipe does not […]

    Brodetto (Fish soup Italian style)

    Brodetto (Fish soup Italian style)

Between the endless rainfall yesterday and the exhaustion I was feeling, I decided on soup for dinner. And not just any soup, a soup to make the whole mess worth it. Also, I needed an excuse to visit my special fishmonger and wanted to see what special local catch was available. Lots of special things […]

    Raspberry Pi

    Raspberry Pi

This pie is so perfect it’s practically mathematical. This is pretty much the best thing I have ever eaten – very addictive, made only more so by the addition of vanilla ice cream. Highly recommend going to the trouble of making your own pie crust. I should have made a two crust batch of pie […]

    Red Egg Salad

    Red Egg Salad

The next time you find yourself in a specialty Asian store, grab some Sriracha mayo and thank me for the recommendation. It worked so well in this egg salad and turned it a pretty shade of crimson. I added finely chopped red pepper to amp the red-effect Ingredients: 4 boiled eggs 1 heaping tablespoon sriracha […]

    Braised Cauliflower

    Braised Cauliflower

Ode to simplicity, a light meal or side dish. Many vegetables can be prepared this way. No need to smother on the cheese sauce or bacon, just a simple veg highlighted by classic flavours. Ingredients: 1 head cauliflower cut into florets. 2 tablespoons tomato paste 2 cups vegetable or meat stock 2 tablespoons chopped parsley […]

    Kale Pesto

    Kale Pesto

Serve this lovely sauce over plain pasta, or add to a soup to give it some zing! Whatever you do, just eat your greens! I love how green and inviting this sauce is, and it’s really a snap to pull together in a kitchen mixer or blender. Ingredients: I bunch kale (blanched) 1//2 cup parmesan […]

    Ricotta Gnocchi with Kale Pesto

    Ricotta Gnocchi with Kale Pesto

This is definitely for the parmesan lovers out there. It is a flavour-packed punch for a cheese that is quite bland. I have been wanting to make my own homemade Ricotta for some time now, but that is for another day. This recipe uses your stock standard grocery store ricotta, adds some parmesan, flour and […]

    Panzerotti (Fried Pizza)

    Panzerotti (Fried Pizza)

OK, you really can’t get any better than this. Fried pizza dough stuffed with cheese, sauce and meat. My kids were in heaven when I served them this last night. A crispy fried dough, with warm gooey cheese inside. A real showstopper! I think my oil was slightly too hot so they cooked quite quickly, […]

Octopus salad with avocado and olives

Octopus salad with avocado and olives

I’ve been wanting to visit my local fishmonger, which just happens to be a a major seafood distributor and some of the freshest catch imaginable. Best of all it’s right around the corner from my house! When I read about how easy it was to cook octopus in an Italian cookbook I put two and […]

    Braised beef anolini in brodo

    Braised beef anolini in brodo

After spending about 20 minutes leafing through this cookbook that I picked up from my local library, I was inspired by one of a dozen recipes and set my heart on a weekend project. However, I began to despair when I realised I must have gotten rid of my pasta machine in one of our […]

    Easy BBQ chicken Bulgogi

    Easy BBQ chicken Bulgogi

I love how this recipe can be made low carb and can be adapted for different proteins. This is what I call a “pantry marinade” as I did not have to go out and buy special ingredients to marinate the protein. Everything was in my cupboards. This is a fun meal for kids, as they […]

    Middle Eastern Green Bean Stew

    Middle Eastern Green Bean Stew

Overcooked green beans – yes! Simmered slowly with beef chunks and some warming spices. Served over couscous. You’ve got a deal. I understand that sometimes green beans are a bit time consuming to clean. However, I encourage you to put on some music, enjoy the zen of the moment, and make the bean cleaning work […]

    Egyptian Lentil pasta w Quinoa

    Egyptian Lentil pasta w Quinoa

When I lived in Cairo, I became familiar with a very popular dish called Kosharie. It is considered the “National dish” of Egypt. It features multiple starches, rice & pasta, along with lentils, a spicy tomato sauce and fried onions. When leaving my apartment in El Maniel, I would encounter multiple street vendors selling hot […]

    Kitty Kat Birthday cake

    Kitty Kat Birthday cake

What 9 year old girl wouldn’t love a homemade cake in the shape of a kitty for her birthday? I got this recipe from Recipe Tin Eats their “Best Vanilla Cake” which is based on Japanese methods for cake making. Yes it calls for 4 eggs, but it really was hands down the best cake […]

    Mexican chocolate chia pud’in

    Mexican chocolate chia pud’in

This pudding is the ultimate brain food. As a breakfast or meal replacement, this cinnamon spiced, coconutty pudding is full of creamy flavours. Add cacao nibs, granola or desiccated coconut as topping. In a blender this pudding takes minutes to put together or whisk by hand. Ingredients: 2 tablespoons cocoa powder (unsweetened) 1/4 cup chia […]
